A client of mine is experiencing delays in the mail generated by scripts
or up to one and a half hours. On complaining to support we were told
that mail from scripts was sent at a lower priority to protect the
systems from rogue scripts. The provider is names.co.uk

Anyone else come across this?

They say that the solution is to upgrade to a VPS Their offering is £50
per month for a 100 domain licence. Would this be all that is payable?

Could I get a better deal? However, quality and reliability are more
important than cost.

The base level windows dedicated server from 123reg is =A358 a month and=20
while i've only had it a month - everything works fine and mail form=20
stuff is pretty much instant .

ini_set("sendmail_from","webmaster@yourdomain.com");
ini_set("SMTP","pop.yourdomain.com");

Although you need to put the above just before the mail() command or any=20
form mail stuff goes straight into a black hole (or at least it did with=20
me when i first tried it) .

But i figure you would go for the linux server if you did anyway and=20
just mention it .

I've just started with a VPS in Canada for $20/mo. To some extent you get
what you pay for, but my previous host was a shared multi-site package and
it ran like a dog. For my $20 (half-price for life), I get a modest VPS
(800Mhz CPU slice/768MB RAM/Windows Server 2003) but it's running a number
of (modest) sites with ease.

My particular package comes with a 30 domain Plesk control panel licence,
but there is no limit on the number of unmanaged domains that I can host
(other that lack of resources).

It really depends on what you are hosting, and how you feel about a given
host.

That's very cheap, even at $40/month full price - who's it with?

Forget it! You get what you pay for - I'm busy looking for a new alternative
to 3dgwebhosting who have been a disaster since day 1!

There are plenty of hosts charging around $40-$60 dollars for lower-end
VPSs, and a similar lower-threshold seems to be in the UK (where VPSs start
at £25)
